The science behind UV water treatment is remarkably simple. When biological organisms such as viruses, bacteria, pathogens, etc., are exposed to UV light, the proteins present on the cell wall ruptures and causes the death of the microorganism. This effect is further enhanced when cells stop replicating as genetic material (RNA and DNA), and form thymine dimers upon absorption of UV light.
Sunlight consists of a wide range of electromagnetic radiation. Particularly, this radiation includes ultraviolet, visible, and infrared light. Ultraviolet is subcategorized into UVA, UVB, UVC regions. Of all the ultraviolet radiations emitted by the sun, only 3-4% reach the earth. Of the UV radiation that reaches the earth, 95% consists of UVA, 5% consists of UVB, and 0% consists of UVC due to the earth's atmosphere absorbing all the harmful radiation.

Over the years, several scientific studies show the effectiveness of UV light in treating various surfaces. More recently, it has been found that UVC light has maximum germicidal efficacy, which means that by using an extremely low power of UVC light, one could treat a surface effectively. CrazyCap uses this special region of light to achieve its maximum germicidal effect. Using low powered UVC light offers great benefits in terms of safety and power consumption.
What good is removing bacteria if you end up with a neurologically toxic metal? Thanks to recent developments in LED technology and our next-gen design, CrazyCap achieves the optimal light spectrum without using any mercury.
